Huawei’s ambitious foray into the premium automotive sector is entering a new phase of industrial scaling. Peng Lei, Product Director for the Huawei-backed Stelato (Xiangjie) brand, recently confirmed that the 'Stelato Super Factory' is nearing the completion of significant technical upgrades. This overhaul is designed to eliminate manufacturing bottlenecks and streamline the delivery of the flagship S9 and S9T sedans to an eager customer base.
Beyond mere delivery logistics, the factory’s modernization signals a strategic expansion of the Stelato portfolio. The facility is now transitioning into trial production phases for two upcoming vehicle segments: a high-end SUV and a luxury MPV. This move represents Huawei’s attempt to capture the highest-margin sectors of the Chinese electric vehicle market, where versatile family and executive vehicles are currently outperforming traditional sedans.
The Stelato brand, a key pillar of Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), represents a deepening collaboration between the tech giant and legacy manufacturer BAIC Group. By leveraging Huawei’s 'Qiankun' intelligent driving systems and 'Hongmeng' cockpit software, the brand aims to redefine the 'software-defined vehicle.' The upcoming SUV and MPV models are expected to feature even deeper integration of these proprietary technologies, positioning them as direct competitors to established luxury incumbents.
This production ramp-up comes at a critical time for the Chinese EV market, which is currently defined by intense price wars and a race toward full autonomous capability. Huawei’s strategy of providing the 'brain' and the 'nervous system' for vehicles while coordinating closely with factory partners allows it to scale faster than traditional startups. The success of the Stelato Super Factory will serve as a litmus test for whether a technology firm can truly master the complexities of high-volume, high-precision automotive manufacturing.
