The Brief

China News Service reported that advanced equipment is entering Shanghai as preparations peak for the ninth China International Import Expo from November 5 to 10. A high-end precision mill-turn machine from Austria was unboxed for its first public display in Asia, featuring as a special exhibit marking 55 years of diplomatic relations between China and Austria. The machine is an Austrian WFL M35-G mill-turn center measuring 9.1 meters long, 4.7 meters wide, and 3.3 meters high. It integrates turning, milling, drilling, and measuring operations into a complete processing solution that reaches micrometer-level precision. Having departed Austria in August and traversed Hamburg before reaching Shanghai in October across more than one month at sea, the machine was transported across three containers. It was among the first batch of exhibits to arrive in Shanghai for this year's expo. According to WFL on-site worker Zheng Xiaoli, customs clearance was very convenient with concise and efficient procedures, while port facilitation services substantially reduced the logistics cycle.

Why it matters

The machine serves strategic national industries and high-end manufacturing, matching China's precision machining requirements for complex components in aerospace, new energy vehicles, precision machinery, and artificial intelligence.

China context

According to Zhou Yiwen, head of the import expo logistics service group at COSCO SHIPPING Lines, past years saw more food and small consumer products, whereas recent years have seen growing numbers of precision machinery and intelligent equipment entering the exhibition lineup to showcase new achievements and uncover cooperation opportunities.
