China adds over 11,000 high-power charging facilities at expressway service areas

The Brief

China's expressway service areas have added more than 11,000 high-power charging facilities, according to an October 9 China News Service report. The report said the additions were roughly equal to the previous cumulative number of such facilities. It described charging installations and mobile equipment used during the National Day holiday as drivers travelled between cities and tourist destinations. At Nanning Port's Liujing operating area in Guangxi, a new charging station has ten 360 kW chargers. A project manager from China Southern Power Grid's Guangxi electric-vehicle company said there were three other supercharging sites along the Pinglu Canal. At Wuxi's Meicun expressway service area, where traffic exceeded 100,000 vehicle passages on one holiday day, power providers deployed mobile energy-storage charging vehicles to meet peak demand. The report also described upgrades around Changzhou's Jintan high-speed railway station and nearby attractions, where overall charging efficiency increased by half. In Taizhou, Zhejiang, expressway service areas put nearly 600 charging spaces into use, including supercharging facilities, and recorded nearly 100,000 charging visits. Liquid-cooled stations in Hunan and Henan were reported to provide a maximum of 600 kW per charging connector.
