Pinduoduo Hires Over 3,000 Employees in Xiongan New Area Within Two Months

E-commerce operator Pinduoduo has expanded its presence in Hebei's Xiongan New Area, hiring more than 3,000 employees within two months of establishing its local subsidiary, according to state media reports. The company onboarded its first batch of staff in mid-June and surpassed 3,000 by late July, setting a hiring speed record for private firms in the strategic development zone. Pinduoduo aims to develop the Xiongan entity into a hub for data processing and traditional manufacturing advancement.

Pinduoduo's rapid scale-up in Xiongan reflects a growing trend of major Chinese e-commerce and technology companies establishing substantial operational roots outside major tier-1 cities. By rapidly creating thousands of jobs and establishing specialized technical centers, tech platforms are actively integrating into national regional growth strategies.

Chinese e-commerce giant Pinduoduo has rapidly scaled its workforce in Hebei’s Xiongan New Area, onboarding more than 3,000 employees within two months of setting up its local entity, according to a report by People's Daily. The company's expansion in Xiongan began on June 15 with an initial cohort of 150 employees. Workforce numbers reached 600 by the end of June and doubled to 1,200 a week later, making Pinduoduo the largest private enterprise by headcount in the newly designated area. Recruitment accelerated further following the opening of a new office facility, with peak daily onboarding exceeding 200 staff members. By July 20, employee headcount passed 2,000, reaching over 3,000 ten days later. Company plans originally called for hiring 5,000 employees within one year, a target the firm now expects to achieve ahead of schedule. Pinduoduo is offering direct corporate employment contracts and comprehensive benefits to staff, including dedicated dining facilities, training centers, and nursery rooms at its new office complex near the Xiongan Outlets commercial district. Pinduoduo executives stated that the Xiongan subsidiary will be developed into a central hub for data processing services and high-quality traditional manufacturing development. The next phase of recruitment will focus on technical roles, including mid-office operations, data analysis, and quality inspection specialists. Academic observers noted the broader regional impact of the initiative. Xu Zhixing, an associate professor at Beijing Normal University, stated that Pinduoduo’s recruitment offers immediate employment options for relocated residents and university graduates. As 15 Beijing-administered universities relocate facilities to Xiongan, structured corporate positions could help convert temporary institutional influxes into long-term local talent retention.
