China Schedules 2026 National Cybersecurity Week for September in Jinan

China will convene its 2026 National Cybersecurity Week from September 14 to 20, with main events taking place in Jinan, Shandong province. Jointly hosted by ten central government bodies, including the Cyberspace Administration of China and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, this year's edition operates under the theme "Cybersecurity for the People, Cybersecurity by the People—Safeguarding the Intelligent Era." The program includes an opening ceremony, 15 specialized sub-forums, dedicated theme days, and concurrent national technical standardization sessions.

As artificial intelligence and digital transformation accelerate, cybersecurity is central to China's governance and industrial agenda. The annual week serves as the country's primary platform for popularizing defense skills, explaining legal frameworks, coordinating talent and enterprise investments, and advancing technical standards.

The campaign is jointly organized by ten central departments and organizations, including the Publicity Department of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Public Security, the People's Bank of China, the National Radio and Television Administration, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the Communist Youth League Central Committee, and the All-China Women's Federation. Speaking at the press conference, Wang Lihong, deputy director of the CAC's Cybersecurity Coordination Bureau, and Ma Baoling, member of the Standing Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Jinan Municipal Committee, outlined the schedule and objectives. This year's official theme is "Cybersecurity for the People, Cybersecurity by the People—Safeguarding the Intelligent Era." Activities will emphasize the dissemination of cybersecurity laws, regulations, and policy documents, showcase recent industry achievements, and foster public awareness of digital defense practices. Main proceedings in Jinan will include an opening ceremony, a summit forum, 15 specialized sub-forums, a technical application experience zone, and a specialized job fair for cybersecurity and IT professionals. Between September 15 and September 20, organizers will stage a series of dedicated theme days targeting schools, telecommunications, the rule of law, financial services, youth, and personal information protection, alongside community-level outreach initiatives. Additionally, the National Cybersecurity Standardization Technical Committee will hold its "Standard Week" concurrently in Jinan. The platform will bring together technical experts to discuss the implementation and evolution of industry standards aimed at guiding orderly digital development. Jinan municipal authorities also plan to host a dedicated conference on digital-smart fusion and industrial empowerment to attract project investments and technical talent.
