The Brief

China News Service reported that skilled personnel from advanced manufacturing sectors in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and other areas gathered in Foshan on October 25 to participate in the 2026 Guangdong Provincial Intelligent Robotics and Digital Manufacturing Applied Technology Vocational Skills Competition. The two-person team competition aligned with new quality productive forces and attracted over one hundred registered competitors. It combined theoretical knowledge assessments with practical skills testing. Practical sessions relied on an intelligent robotics system integration platform, testing competencies in data collection and processing, human-machine interaction, intelligent equipment adjustment, and basic PLC applications. Following the contest, judges awarded one first prize, 3 second prizes, and 5 third prizes. Contestants Zhang Shuishan and Zhang Yunsong from Nanhai, Foshan, captured the event's first prize.

Why it matters

First-prize winner Zhang Shuishan stated that the competition provided exposure to previously unfamiliar tasks, fostering professional growth. He noted that the tasks closely matched actual production, explaining that bringing this experience back to his daily post will help him design more and better technical solutions.

China context

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has focused on manufacturing, treating intelligent robotics as a priority pioneering industry. Foshan's Nanhai district alone has gathered more than one hundred robotics enterprises, accelerating its role as an industrial testing ground for robotics technology validation and innovation.
