The Brief

China News Service reported that the finals of the Guangzhou 2026 safety emergency rescue robot competition took place in Guangzhou on October 23 and 24. Featuring two main competition tracks and seven practical subjects, the event linked the full pathway from laboratory development to practical field application to explore new technological approaches for megacity emergency rescue. The three-month competition concluded with 29 teams reaching the finals following rigorous tests in replicated disaster settings. The final stage evaluated robots across high-rise building firefighting and natural disaster rescue tracks, featuring six land-based subjects and one underwater subject. Tasks tested fire source location, trapped person searches, weighted climbing, cargo transport, disaster-area AI reconnaissance, and underwater buoyancy rescue. Participating machines demonstrated capabilities across several harsh environments. Reconnaissance robot dogs located trapped people inside heavy smoke, while four-legged robots hauled loads up stairs and through water. Drones operated outside high-rise buildings between 30 and 50 floors to break glass and extinguish fires, demolition robots penetrated narrow pipes, and underwater robots carried out buoyancy rescue for a 160 jin individual in turbid waters. Following the contests, Xuanji Dongli secured the championship in the high-rise building fire rescue track, while the Tieao team from Embodied Intelligence won the natural disaster emergency rescue track. Several other teams, including Haikang Wuxi and Qianxing Chuangxin, took first prizes across the individual subject categories.

Key Takeaways

  • 1Twenty-nine finalist teams competed across two tracks covering high-rise fire operations and natural disaster emergency response scenarios.
  • 2Demonstrated systems included reconnaissance robot dogs, glass-breaking firefighting drones operating at 30 to 50 floors, and demolition robots.
  • 3Xuanji Dongli and the Tieao team from Embodied Intelligence won the tournament championships in their respective competition tracks.
