The Brief

China News Service reported that the 2026 China Aviation Industry Conference and Nanchang Aviation Industry Expo opened in Nanchang on October 31. More than 500 enterprises and scientific research institutions gathered to exchange views on large aircraft industrialization, uncrewed aerial vehicles, electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, and low-altitude operational services, while displaying full-chain products including complete aircraft equipment, airborne systems, and low-altitude flying vehicles. Nanchang has built an industrial presence covering the complete spectrum of C909, C919, and C929 aircraft models, according to Mayor Mei Yi. The city plans to refine this full-spectrum large aircraft layout, advance batch production of major structural components and composite fuselage sections, and attract leading aviation research and manufacturing enterprises. The city has gathered more than 500 operating entities across its aviation sector, replacing the single-enterprise support structure of the past. The local industry has formed a comprehensive industrial chain integrating research, design, complete aircraft manufacturing, flight testing, and airworthiness support capabilities. The 50-square-kilometer Nanchang Aviation City currently hosts more than 70 aviation-related enterprises, establishing a complete chain running from design research to airworthiness certification, complete assembly, and maintenance.

China context

Nanchang produced the first domestically built aircraft of the People's Republic of China, the CJ-5, which flew in 1954. Subsequent models developed in the city included the CJ-6, Q-5, K-8, and L-15, establishing the municipality as an early base for aviation scientific research, aircraft design, and manufacturing.
