China Reports Expansion in Intelligent Computing and Telecommunications Infrastructure

Xinhua News Agency reported that China maintained steady development in the information and communications industry during the first three quarters of the year, according to Xie Cun, director of the Information and Communications Administration at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. By the end of September, the nation achieved an intelligent computing scale of 2592EFLOPS, representing a 146% increase compared to the same period last year and bolstering the expansion of the artificial intelligence industry. Telecommunications opening measures progressed steadily, bringing the total number of foreign-invested telecommunications enterprises to 3455 by late September, an increase of 25% year on year. Meanwhile, 6G technology tests moved forward to mature key systems, an ION-2030 promotion group formed to drive optical network standards, 5G integrated across all 97 national economic major categories, and the industrial internet covered all 41 industrial major categories. Future ministry plans emphasize seizing construction opportunities in new-generation communication networks through major breakthrough engineering initiatives, enhancing computing facilities, and pursuing 6G technological innovation. Regulators also intend to advance standards, support eligible companies applying for satellite internet of things commercial tests, and explore broader pilot openings for value-added telecommunications services.
