The Brief

China News Service reported that molecular microbiologist and Chinese Academy of Sciences academician Zhao Guoping called for an independent innovation path during a synthetic biology session at the Cape of Good Hope Science Salon. Zhao highlighted that synthetic biology closely coordinates building to understand living systems with building to utilize them through modular and systematic methods that raise technical development efficiency and test previously difficult applications. Zhao proposed combining artificial intelligence for science with artificial intelligence for industry, utilizing autonomous laboratories powered by digital and physical artificial intelligence to accelerate scientific research and development. Sun Yuanxia, a researcher from the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, noted that manufacturing paradigms are shifting from chemical synthesis toward biological manufacturing across raw material routes, chassis strains, and enzyme catalysts. Shenzhen University professor Wu Dengsheng explained that the scientific agent platform Dongbi Zhihe will focus on enzyme engineering, experimental design, and process optimization to build a closed loop connecting experimental feedback with automated facilities.

Key Takeaways

  • 1Zhao Guoping advocated combining artificial intelligence for science and industry to accelerate research through autonomous laboratory systems.
  • 2Sun Yuanxia stated that manufacturing paradigms are shifting toward biomanufacturing requiring restructured raw material routes, chassis strains, and enzyme catalysts.
  • 3Wu Dengsheng detailed plans for the Dongbi Zhihe platform to connect experimental feedback and automated equipment into an optimization loop.
