The adoption of robotics in dining and elder care highlights how automation in China is expanding beyond factory floors into daily service industries. As demographic shifts place greater pressure on elderly care and service sector labor, commercial deployments provide a real-world testing ground for intelligent machines and humanoid hardware.

Robotic systems in Beijing are increasingly moving into everyday commercial and service environments, operating in dining establishments and senior care homes as the municipality expands its local robotics ecosystem, according to state media reports. In the capital's food service sector, automated systems are handling core kitchen and customer-facing responsibilities. At one Beijing restaurant concept, Robot Yanjiusuo, automated culinary units have been programmed to prepare more than 50 distinct dishes spanning China's eight major regional culinary traditions, according to restaurant operations manager Shang Bowei. Beyond cooking, automated beverage stations can mix cocktails or fruit teas within two minutes, while interactive mobile robots sing and dance in dining areas to entertain guests. Automation is also extending into municipal elder care services. In several Beijing nursing facilities, robots are assisting with culinary preparation as well as routine caregiving. These robotic caregiver teams support elderly residents with daily living activities, supplementing human staff in long-term care management. The deployment of service robotics reflects the rapid expansion of Beijing's domestic robotics sector. According to data reported by China News Service, the revenue of Beijing's robotics industry exceeded 45 billion yuan ($6.2 billion) in 2025. The city has established a cluster of more than 400 core enterprises, within a broader network of over 20,000 intelligent robotics firms. Furthermore, Beijing is home to nearly 30 developers specializing in complete humanoid robot systems, ranking among the highest concentrations in the country.
