The Brief

People's Daily reported that the 2026 World Maritime Equipment Conference was held from October 16 to 19 in Fuzhou, Fujian, alongside the fourth Fujian International Marine Equipment Expo. The event displayed underwater robots, deep-sea aquaculture platforms, and intelligent ship cockpits, presenting numerous marine equipment products and innovations reflecting new sector vitality. Intelligent solutions transformed marine capabilities, highlighted by Fujian Qiandong Maritime Granary Technology's aquaculture platform deployed in seawater roughly 20 meters deep. Company brand manager Chen Ming explained that the platform uses self-rotating and self-lifting cages capable of resisting wind, waves, and red tides, helping farmers escape reliance on unpredictable weather. In the expo's high-tech and electric vessel area, CATL displayed its Yunlan integrated smart cockpit, consolidating traditional knobs and instruments onto a single screen showing radar, speed, position, and water depth. CATL electric vessel platform research leader Xia Dezhou noted that ships using the cockpit achieve autonomous navigation, obstacle avoidance, route optimization, and voice-command operations. At the Fujian offshore wind power equipment showcase, a sand table exhibited models of offshore wind turbines. Zhang Youbin, deputy general manager of China Three Gorges Corporation's Fujian branch, explained that the display featured 20-megawatt offshore wind turbine models, representing units that connected to the power grid for electricity generation in southern Fujian waters in February.

Why it matters

CATL's electronic display showed that its supporting batteries have been installed in more than 1000 electric and hybrid vessels. These marine installations encompass numerous operational boat types, including cargo vessels, sightseeing tour ships, scientific research boats, working vessels, and offshore engineering ships.
